Family trip to Guatemala and Salvador

Few days ago me and my wife headed to Central America to explore countries slightly unknown to us. To see mayan pyramids, climb the volcano, taste local cuisine and of course a good rum. Guatemala and El Salvador became our home for almost 2 weeks.

It s been a wonderful holiday /not counting the 3hours spent in a waiting room of the us border control due to the mistake of Lufthansa ground staff/. There have been less than 10 tourists both in Guatemala city and El Salvador, but the more nicer were were the local people we met. My wife s spanish language knowledge came handy, we didnt get lost, we ate, we even had a place to sleep 😉
A very good rum called Zacapa Centenario is being produced in Guatemala, we first time had it in Prague, so we had to get one here as well. nicely sweet taste..and the smell! But please – no ice or coke! But to have beans and tortillas twice a day – we quickly got fed up with them 🙂
In El Salvador we were staying in St. Ana volcano park. Simple cabanas in very quiet place with a gorgeous view over the Itzalco volcano. On weekends the place gets busy and bustling with locals having bbq, throughout the week we had it just for us. We watched unbelievably romantic sunsets sitting on a blanket and talking about everything possible..The climb to the Itzalco volcano was quite short but pretty exhausting. For our safety we were escorted by two security guards..We spent the next days by the Coatepeque lake swimming in its clear and refreshing waters. We recommend 🙂
Returning to Guatemala meant staying in the centre of Guatemalan tourism – the Antigua city. Tourists everywhere you look, we got scared little bit 🙂 The city is full of cathedrals, churches, narrow streets with colourfully painted houses and small shops, two majestic volcanoes are surrounding this cozy place.
People in these countries are very nice, compared to some countries /such as Thailand/, you dont have the feeling like they want to trick you or take advantage of you..We are already looking forward to the next visit! 🙂
